12-Month Pay Option
At the end of each fiscal year, employees who work less than 12 months have the opportunity to change how they are paid for the following fiscal year. They may choose to be paid over their actual work period (commonly the academic year), or to have their earnings paid out over the entire fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
To be eligible for this choice, the employee must meet the following criteria:
- be benefit-eligible;
- have a regular work period that is less than the fiscal year; and
- be employed with NAU for the current spring semester.
Employees who wish to change their payment option are required to sign a binding agreement that cannot be changed mid-year. This 12-Month Pay Election form must be completed, signed, and returned to Human Resources (NAU Box 4113) on or before June 19 each year. New payment schedules become effective with the beginning of the new fiscal year, July 1.
Note: Employees who opt to change from an academic year payment schedule (which ends in May) to a fiscal year schedule (which begins July 1) will not receive a paycheck in June, but will begin receiving a paycheck in July (the start of the new fiscal year).
If you have any questions after reviewing the agreement form, please email Diana.Davis@nau.edu.
