Special Information

  • Northern Arizona University, Yuma Branch Campus is conducting a national search to fill a non-tenure track position as a Coordinator in the Education Program. This is a twelve-month position at the rank of Associate Clinical Professor. Renewal is based on successful annual review and continued funding of the position.
  • Location: The administrative and curricular structure of the program is located in Yuma, and therefore requires that the successful candidate live in the Lower Colorado Region. Travel for meetings, recruitment efforts, and other job related duties, including the supervision of full- and part- time faculty throughout Arizona, is an expectation of the position.

Job Description

  • This is an administrative position intended to provide oversight and coordination in the education department on the Yuma Branch Campus. The primary focus of the Education Program in Yuma is to provide Bachelor level P-12 teacher education that meets the needs of the Lower Colorado River Region. Additionally, select masters and doctoral education programs are offered at the Yuma Branch Campus. The Campus also offers a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood in Yuma and LaPaz Counties in Arizona and Imperial Valley County in California.
  • The role of the education coordinator is to provide oversight for the administration, programmatic academic rigor, scheduling and staffing of classes in both the undergraduate and graduate programs offered on the Yuma Branch Campus. The coordinator is also expected to provide leadership in the preparation for and continuance of programmatic accreditation under the Arizona Department of Education. The coordinator is expected to support teacher preparation, administrative and counseling licensure programs, and insuring that all records are maintained properly at NAU-Yuma in compliance with the Arizona Department of Education. The coordinator will be the primary contact between the Yuma Branch Campus and the school district superintendents in Yuma County and will serve on all committees related to this relationship. As the Yuma Branch Campus moves toward separate accreditation the coordinator is expected to take a proactive lead in working with faculty and local school districts to create and implement innovative curricula for the Education program that address needs of the Lower Colorado River Region. Finally, the coordinator will have direct supervision of the personnel in the Yuma Branch Campus Writing Center. An active research agenda is not required for this position.
  • This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President/Campus Executive Officer at the Northern Arizona University  Yuma Branch Campus. The Education Coordinator is a member of the Yuma Branch Campus Senior Management Team.
  • Teaching responsibilities may include the delivery of courses via the web and/or face-to-face courses, while the teaching load will vary depending on the administrative workload demands.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned Doctorate in Education (Ed.D or Ph.D.) with specialization open.
  • Evidence of a minimum of five years administrative experience in Education (P-20).
  • The equivalent of six years (12 semesters) of college-level teaching or P-12 teaching

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of increasing supervisory, management and/or administrative responsibilities in either P-12 or university career.
  • Evidence of teaching courses in curriculum and instruction or educational leadership at the university level.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of working in partnership with community colleges and/or with P-12 school districts.
  • Evidence of community outreach or civic evolvement that promotes P-12 education
  • Ability to work and interact professionally with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Evidence of prior experience in the evaluation of university faculty.
  • Evidence of prior or present membership in national or local associations of P-12 school administrators.

General Information

  • NAU-Yuma is a Branch Campus of NAU in Flagstaff. NAU is a comprehensive, Doctoral I institution with over 20,000 students in attendance between the residential campus in Flagstaff and over 30 statewide sites. NAU- Yuma has a primary role in providing a wide range of bachelor and graduate degrees in the Lower Colorado River area of Arizona and California, with a growing role in providing degrees throughout Arizona. The Yuma Branch Campus has approximately 700 students on campus, while offering distance programs to an additional 900 students off campus. The Yuma Branch Campus has been designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution. Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.
