Special Information - Northern Arizona University seeks a dynamic, imaginative and experienced leader for the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration. The Vice President for Finance and Administration reports directly to the President. S/he will be a member of the President's cabinet. Reporting to the Vice President Finance and Administration are human resources, financial services/comptroller, purchasing services, university police, post office, internal audit, bookstore, space allocation, Office of Economic Development, and the Office of Sustainability. The unit consists of 155 full time employees with an operating budget of $10 million.

Job Description - The successful candidate must be able to manage diverse and multifaceted programs, be able to work well as a member of a senior management team, and have a proven track record as a team leader. The successful candidate should also have the ability to advance the goals of a public university with a complex mission, consisting of undergraduate instruction, strong graduate and research programs in selected areas, and substantial extended programs both on site and in electronic formats.
Minimum Qualifications - A minimum of a Master's degree is required.
The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in finance and administration, with at least 5 years at a senior leadership level. Candidates should possess a track record of success in strategic planning, team building, budgeting and financial management, safety/security and human resources.
Candidates must also possess excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, be committed to the University's values of excellence and dedication to diversity, and be prepared to join academic and administrative colleagues in maintaining the high quality of education for its students while moving the institution forward in national prominence.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in an academic setting is preferred, although similar positions in business, government or non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply.
General Information - One of three public universities in the state, Northern Arizona University is a High Research institution serving a multicultural student body of 22,507 students, with support of 2,519 full-time employees, and a total budget of $400 million. It has nationally recognized programs in ecosystem science & management, forestry, geology, the applied social sciences, education and hospitality management. About two-thirds of NAU's students attend the historic Mountain Campus in Flagstaff; others are served at 32 instructional sites around the state or are enrolled in electronically delivered programs. The university has 5,720 graduate students and offers 46 master's degrees and 9 doctoral degrees. The campus has a growing research mission evidenced by nearly $53 million in grants and contracts in 2008. The Vice President of Finance and Administration will be expected to interact with the other vice presidents, a diverse student population, members of the Flagstaff community.
NAU's Mountain Campus is located in Flagstaff, a community of 61,000 located about 140 miles north of Phoenix and surrounded by the natural beauty and cultural riches of the Colorado Plateau.
