Job Description

  • The Department of History at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the field of history and social studies secondary education. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses for pre-service and in-service teachers, clinical supervision of student teachers, the development of program assessments, and the development and maintenance of collaborative relationships with Arizona social studies teachers, especially those located in underserved rural and reservation communities. The candidate is also expected to conduct an active program of research and scholarship in the fields of history education and/or the history of education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A doctorate in the field of history, history education, or closely related field (ABD if dissertation completed by date of hire).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secondary teaching experience, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity strongly preferred. Preference given to applicants who display appropriate expertise, a willingness to augment existing departmental specialties, and/or experience with NCATE standards. Evidence of teaching effectiveness, as well as publications, is strongly desired. Candidate should show evidence of an understanding of the advising, scholarship, and service activities of faculty in a public research university with a teacher-scholar environment and a diverse student population.

Salary

  • $50,000-52,000
