Special Information

  • Location: This position is located in Yuma, Arizona. The successful candidate is expected to live in the Yuma or Lower Colorado River area.
  • The Yuma Branch Campus of Northern Arizona University is conducting a national search to fill a three-year, with potential of renewal, non-tenure track position as a Lecturer in the Social Work Program. Renewal is based on successful annual review and continued funding of the position.

Job Description

  • Teach four courses per semester across a BSW generalist curriculum
  • Assist with duties related to recruitment and program development
  • Advise students
  • Provide service in the community, program, department, and university
  • Summer and winter teaching may be available for additional compensation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned masters in the field of Social Work (MSW or MSSW) from a CSWE accredited program.
  • Three (3) years post-MSW practice experience
  • Evidence of 1 academic year of college/university teaching experience, with a minimum of 6 credit hours of teaching per semester

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Social Work or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one year experience of Social Work practice in rural areas.
  • Evidence of a minimum of one year experience working with Indigenous Southwest populations.
  • Evidence of practice competence and a generalist orientation.
  • Evidence of community involvement, such as memberships in community organizations or involvement in community action.
  • Stated interest in a willingness to teach courses across the social work curriculum.
  • Stated interest in a willingness to teach through web-based and other distance education technologies.
  • Evidence of familiarity with principles of adult learning.
  • Statement of teaching philosophy that includes a commitment to teaching.
  • Experience in student recruitment/retention, student advising, and field placement facilitation and supervision.
  • Evidence of commitment to teaching and working with culturally and ethnically diverse student and University community.

General Information

  • Northern Arizona University is a 22,500 student institution with its main campus in Flagstaff, a four-season community of about 62,000 at the base if the majestic San Francisco Peaks. NAUs emphasis on undergraduate education is enhanced by its graduate programs and research as well as distance learning.   • NAU-Yuma is a branch campus of Northern Arizona University-Flagstaff, located in the desert southwest. NAU-Yuma shares a campus with Arizona Western College (AWC), which provides all Freshman and Sophomore classes while NAU-Yuma provides all junior, senior, and graduate classes. NAU-Yuma has a primary role in providing a wide range of baccalaureate and graduate degrees in the Lower Colorado River area of Arizona and California, with a growing role in providing degrees throughout Arizona. This program also includes a number of students from the Imperial Valley College in nearby Imperial, CA.
  • The NAU-Yuma Social Work program is an accredited BSW program with an orientation toward Indigenous populations of the Southwest. Our goals include a commitment to generalist social work practice, rural settings, and promoting social and economic justice. We are dedicated to enhancing human life locally, tribally, statewide, and internationally. Our social work program extends to Yuma and Tuba City, Arizona, and we employ the cohort model to fit the needs of the students. We are committed to utilizing technology and service learning as principles to support our teaching in social work.
