SUMMARY:
This position generally functions with full principal or co-principal responsibilities for a large sponsored project. This position may also be used in other highly technical research areas. This position requires specialized training and expertise. Incumbents may be required to travel to remote locations to perform research experiments and may be required to work with potentially hazardous materials.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This position differs from classified staff research positions in that typically greater education and experience in required. Projects tend to be more complex and wider in scope.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Data collection, processing and analysis
- Assists faculty researchers, or may act independently, in the planning and designing of research projects, establishing priorities and
- recommending schedules, time tables and costs.
- Presentation of project results to internal and external parties.
- Acts as principal investigator for grant or project.
- Operates specialized scientific equipment.
- Coordinates between government, state and local funding agencies.
- Responsible for overall project management
- Ensure smooth operation of research.
- Performs complex statistical analyses which includes selecting appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity
- and reliability of data, designing and writing programs to perform the analyses and producing written reports on the result of the analysis.
- Effectively use technology to facilitate project's success.
- May supervise classified staff, GAs or student employees
- Liaisons with other NAU departments to ensure success of project.
- Typically responsible for personnel and financial aspects of project.
- Engaged in fieldwork and report writing.
- May be responsible for training staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Ability to communicate effectively

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Typically requires a master's degree in area of assignment. In some cases a Ph.D. may be required. Required experience can range from 4-6 years, depending on education required and the individual position. |
