SUMMARY:

A professional management position operating within a college or school to perform strategic administrative duties. This position operates with broad authority and functions as a part of the executive management team.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The administrative director position is a professional administrative role. Incumbents often perform similar roles to assistant or associate deans. The administrative director is distinguished from an assistant or associate director in that this position typically operates in an academic environment.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following are examples of typical duties. Other duties may be assigned. Essential duties should be identified on a more specific working job description.

  • Responsible for significant administrative responsibilities.
  • Typically responsible for supervision of professional and support staff.
  • Contributes as a strategic member of the management team.
  • Responsible for program development and evaluation.
  • May have responsibility for overseeing certain academic processes, such as promotion and tenure, grade appeals, and student advising.
  • Acts as liaison between Dean's office and college staff and faculty.
  • Represents college or school on university and community committees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires a master's degree in area of assignment. Required experience can range from 4-6 years, depending on the individual position.
