Did you know you can coordinate your Avesis and BCBS vision benefits? If you currently carry Avesis Vision and also carry Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), you can save money by using your Avesis insurance as your primary vision provider and BCBS as your secondary provider.
First, with Avesis, you pay $10 co-pay for the vision exam when seeing an in-network provider. An allowance* of $100 to $150 is paid towards the purchase of contacts or glasses. Any excess amount is paid by the employee. You can access your Avesis benefit once in a 12-month period.
Second, file a claim with BCBS for any out-of-pocket expenses you incur, including the $10 co-pay. BCBS will pay half of your out-of-pocket expenses up to $250 in a two year period.
Example:
Using only your BCBS, if your total bill (exam + glasses + cost of frames) equals $240.00, your BCBS reimbursement at 50% would be $120.00 leaving your total out-of-pocket expenses at $120.00.
Using both Avesis and BCBS, if your total bill (exam + glasses + cost of frames) equals $240.00, your Avesis Allowance* might be $100.00, your out of pocket cost after Avesis is then $140.00. BCBS would reimburse 50% of your out-of-pocket expenses or $70.00 leaving your total out-of-pocket expenses at $70.00.
Coordinating the benefit between Avesis and BCBS will save you $50.00.**
Please Note: *Your actual Avesis allowances will vary. **For additional tax savings, you can use your medical Flexible Spending Account to claim your out-of-pocket expenses. Ask your benefits representative for more details. |
