Is the legislated 1.7% general adjustment increase part of the market or merit increase?
The 1.7% general adjustment was allocated for all state employees. In addition, President Haeger has approved money for market and merit increases at NAU. For Faculty, Academic Professionals and Administrative Faculty who are eligible for the market increase, the 1.7% has been combined in the percentages listed in the eligibility criteria. For those eligible for the merit increase, the merit is calculated separately.
If I am not eligible for the merit increase, do I still receive the 1.7% general adjustment increase?
If you were hired into an eligible position by July 2, 2005, you will receive the 1.7% general adjustment increase. In addition, if you were hired into an eligible position by July 2, 2005 and have a satisfactory or higher review rating, you will also be eligible for the market increase.
When are the increases effective?
The effective date for all the increases is July 2, 2005.
When will I see the increases in my paycheck?
For those paid over 12 months, the paycheck of July 22nd will show a full payroll period at the new salary level. For those paid over 9 months, it will be the paycheck of September 2, 2005.
How are the increases calculated?
Once it is determined which increases someone is eligible for, the increases will be calculated cumulatively.
- The 1.7% adjustment will be applied to the current salary for a new total salary – ‘total A.’
- The market adjustment will then be applied to ‘total A’ for a second new amount – ‘total B.’
- The merit will then be applied to ‘total B’ for the final new salary.
How was my merit calculated?
There are three basic merit levels – Highly Meritorious – 2.55%, Meritorious – 2.05% and Satisfactory – 1.55%. Your ratings for the academic years 2002 – 2004 (AY02, AY03 and AY04) were averaged to create your actual merit increase percentage. For example, if you received a ‘satisfactory’ for AY02, a ‘meritorious’ for AY03, and a ‘meritorious’ for AY04, your merit would be averaged as follows:
AY02 – Satisfactory – 1.55% - .0155
AY03 – Meritorious – 2.05% - .0205
AY04 – Meritorious – 2.05% - .0205
Total: .0565 ÷ 3 = .0188
Your merit will be approximately 1.88%.
What if I don’t have three years of performance review?
If you did not have reviews for each of those three years, an average was calculated from the ratings that were available.
What if I’ve only worked here for a year and don’t have a review rating?
If you were a faculty member during AY05 and are returning for AY06 but do not have a merit rating, you will receive an increase equivalent to “satisfactory” performance.
I’m currently on an approved leave of absence. Am I still eligible for the salary increases?
Yes. If you meet all the eligibility criteria, you’ll receive the appropriate increases. If you are on paid leave, the increase will take effect July 2, 2005. If you are on unpaid leave, the increase will take effect when you return to paid status.
What if I am currently on sabbatical?
