For those classified staff eligible for the merit increase who would like to get an estimate of what that increase may be, follow the steps below:
- Looking across the table, determine the midpoint salary in your grade.
- Note that this is the annualized salary. If you work less than full time (1.0 FTE) or less than a full 12 months, you’ll need to calculate your salary as if you worked full time, 40 hours a week, 12 months a year.
Example: Library Specialist Grade 32 Midpoint salary - $33,106.00
2. Calculate your ‘compa-ratio’ – the percent of midpoint – by dividing your current annualized salary by the midpoint salary in your grade. Multiply the answer by 100 to convert it to a percentage. This is your percent of midpoint.
Example: If my current salary as a library specialist is $27,000 -
- $27,000.00 ÷ $33,106.00 = .8155621
- .8155621 x 100 = 81.55621%
- Round up to 82% - my compa-ratio
3. On the table below, find the row that contains your percent of midpoint and then the column for your current appraisal score. This is the percentage increase that includes both the general adjustment and merit.

Example: If my percent of midpoint is 82% and my appraisal score is a 4, I’ll receive a 4.25% increase.
4. Divide the percentage by 100 and then multiply this number by your current salary. This will be your estimated increase.
Example: 4.25 ÷ 100 = .0425. Current salary of $27,000 x .0425 = $1147.50.
My new annualized salary will be approximately $27,000 + $1147.50 = $28,147.50.
