Policy 3.03

ABOR Policy 6-902

Purpose

This Arizona Board of Regents sponsored benefit allows employees and their eligibile dependents to take advantage of educational opportunities at any of the three state Universities at a reduced rate.

Eligibility, Credit Hour Limits and Fees

Who is Eligible Fall / Spring Semester Summer Session
Eligible administrative, faculty, professional and classified staff employed at 100% FTE ("Full-Time"), on an approved leave of absence, or receiving retirement benefits or long-term disability benefits
1-9 hours = $25
10+ hours = Actual resident tuition for all hours over 9 hours

1-6 hours = $25
7+ hours = Actual resident tuition for all hours over 6 hours

Eligible administrative, faculty, professional and classified staff employed at 50% FTE or more, but less than 100% FTE ("Part-Time"), on an approved leave of absence, or receiving retirement benefits or long-term disability benefits
1-9 hours = $25
10+ hours = Actual resident tuition for all hours over 9 hours
1-6 hours = $25
7+ hours = Actual resident tuition for all hours over 6 hours
Spouses of eligible full- and part-time administrative, faculty, professional and classified staff
1-9 hours = $25
10+ hours = 25% of actual resident tuition for all hours
1-6 hours = $25
7+ hours = 25% of actual resident tuition for all hours
Dependent children of full- and part-time administrative, faculty, professional and classified staff
25% of actual resident tuition
25% of actual resident tuition


Note: As part of the Federal tax relief bill the tax status of graduate tuition waivers has changed. Beginning January 1, 2002, employees will no longer be taxed for classes they are taking, unless the recipient of the waiver benefit receives more than the threshold amount of $5,250.00 during the tax year. An employee will still be taxed on the value of the tuition waiver for a spouse or dependent taking graduate level classes.

How to use the educational benefit

  1. Register for course(s)
  2. Complete the Educational Aid Registration Permit (EARP) form available on the Financial Aid website.
  3. Submit payment for fees to the Bursar's Office

Note: All permits require Financial Aid/Bursar's Office approval. Please allow 24 hours for processing for those forms submitted via the web or up to two days for forms submitted to the office. Keep in mind that the turnaround may be longer during peak registration times due to increased volume.

Important: Completed EARP forms and remaining payment must be received by the Bursar's Office on or before the published deadline dates to avoid a $50 late fee and class deletion.
