Deadline to Resubmit Federal Income Tax Exemption is February 15, 2005   Print

The Internal Revenue Code requires that employees who claim exemption from federal income tax withholding re-file each year. Those who do not re-file will have their tax withholding status changed to ‘single/zero dependents’, the highest withholding rate, as required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

It is now VERY easy to re-file or change your tax withholding status by using Louie self service. Link to http://louie.nau.edu and log onto Louie. On the Faculty and Staff Services page, click the link called “View/Change Your Federal Tax Withholding”. Follow the directions on the page and then click “submit” at the bottom of the page. You will receive an email confirmation of your updated withholding status.

IRS Form W-4 can also be used to re-submit an exempt status election. The form is available at http://hr.nau.edu/m/images/stories/docs/fw4_05.pdf  and can be printed out. Signed and completed forms can be mailed to PO Box 4111 through campus mail or brought to the Human Resources Department (Centennial Building, at the corner of Dupont and Beaver).
