Where’s My Data?
Lucy Sullivan, Data Warehouse Team Lead, Information Technology Services
Laura Jones, Director, Planning and Institutional Research
Often people who need university data are unsure where to start in their search. This session will provide an overview of the different types of data already gathered in various offices around the university, what’s accessible to all employees/departments, and who to contact for particular kinds of data. Since the Business Objects database is a prominent tool, the session will review how to set up an account and navigate the structure, identify the types of reports available, provide tips on how to avoid common errors in reviewing and working with the data, and a question and answer time. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Northern Arizona University is a community unto itself. As such, the university is the repository for various types of information about the members of the community. The sharing of that information is governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA became law in 1974 and provides requirements for the proper release of information pertaining to students’ educational records.
The law stipulates the conditions for the release of information to others, both within and outside the university. FERPA training for staff and faculty is available in an online session at http://www4.nau.eduferpa/.
