Employee Development Support Funds   Print
Please note: Due to the current budget situation, the Employee Development Support Fund (EDSF) program has been suspended until further notice. The university community will be notified when funds become available again. If you have questions, please email training@nau.edu.

The NAU Employee Development Support Funds (EDSF) Program has been established to supplement departmental budgets with additional financial resources for the professional development and training of all NAU employees.

Requests for funding may be made for purchasing training and development materials, bringing a speaker or trainer to campus, participating at a regional or national conference, or a variety of other development opportunities.

Please note that these funds are intended to help departments fund professional development opportunities on a situational or occasional basis (such as conferences, seminars, training events). They may not be used for individual certifications, for coursework, books, etc. taken towards a personal degree program or for membership fees in an organization. In addition, all requests must meet state and University regulations for travel and for the use of public funds.

Criteria:
  • The development opportunity must clearly support the department mission and the university mission, values and goals.
  • All requests will be considered, but priority will be given to proposals that are targeted to the professional development of groups of employees or clearly demonstrate how others (besides the participant) can benefit from the participant sharing information, providing peer training, etc.
  • Other factors the committee considers in making final decisions:
    •  total amount requested compared to total EDSF funds available for disbursement at that time
    • whether the department has contributed financially to the proposed development opportunity (this isn’t required, but will be considered in the overall review of the proposal)
    • whether the individual and/or department have received prior funding in the EDSF program
Eligibility:
  • Proposals must be completed thoroughly and provide specific and detailed information.
  • Proposal writer and participants must be full or part time regular NAU employees.
  • An individual applying for funds to attend a conference or event may not have received funding for that conference or event in the previous three years.
Timelines:
  • The following is the fiscal year 2008-2009 schedule for proposal review – please plan ahead in regard to program dates. Early submissions are encouraged.
