SUMMARY:
The Speech-Language Pathologist assesses and evaluates speech, language, and general development skills of disabled clients. May also instruct and/or oversee clinical students in speech/language pathology.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Evaluate speech, language, and general developmental skills of clients.
- Reviews and discusses medical and developmental case histories with interdisciplinary team to determine individual client evaluation needs and strategies.
- Writes comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluation and follow-up reports to include information about current levels of ability and recommendations for intervention.
- Develops appropriate treatment goals and activities related to the specific needs of clients, and to identify equipment or materials to be used in treatment.
- Provides ongoing support to clients, including consultative and direct therapy services in natural environments as needed.
- Provides training and/or technical assistance to families and others involved in the development of clients.
- Conducts interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary developmental evaluations/assessments.
- Coordinates the transition of clients to ongoing services.
- Assists with training of new staff and consultants.
- Collaborates with outside individuals and agencies in order to provide timely and seamless services to eligible children and families.
- Assists in conducting program evaluation and monitoring, including the development of procedures and forms as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Knowledge of speech and language disabilities.
- Skill in communicating effectively with a variety of people of various socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with disabled individuals.
- Ability to effectively communicate.
- Knowledge of developmental screening and assessment tools and procedures.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Typically requires a master’s degree in speech pathology or a related field, 1-4 years experience in evaluating clients with speech disabilities, and maintenance of appropriate professional certifications and/or licensures. |
