SUMMARY:

The Underwriting Sales Associate is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new underwriting sales contracts for area of assignment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This is a specialized classification and not part of a series.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following are examples of typical duties. Other duties may be assigned. Essential duties should be identified on a more specific working job description.
  • Meets or exceeds monthly sales goals set by supervisor.
  • Identifies, develops, and secures new underwriting contracts.
  • Initiates sales calls, makes face to face sales appointments, prepares presentations for marketing/sales plans, and closes sales.
  • Prepares formal written sales presentations.
  • Creates and presents effective underwriting copies that are suitable for area of assignment.
  • Renews and upgrades existing accounts prior to expiration.
  • Generates weekly and monthly sales reports for supervisor.
  • Travels within sales territory to acquire new underwriting revenue.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Must interact effectively with individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds, ages, and varied business experience.
  • Knowledge of sales techniques and ability to make effective sales presentations.
  • Computer knowledge necessary to generate written marketing proposals and to keep written records of all transactions for presentation to supervisor.
  • Individual should be self-motivated, results/goal oriented with a proven track record of sales success.
  • High level of effective communication skills.
  • Individual must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field to area of assignment and 2 years experience in advertising sales or other sales experience.
