Non-Selection Guidelines   Print
One of the most important parts of the hiring process is the information that is disclosed to all applicants.  NAU’s number one complaint from applicants is that they do not hear about the status of their applications in a timely manner.  Therefore, hiring supervisors are asked to send notification to all applicants.  The sample letters provided are only guidelines; you are encouraged to write your own letter providing candidates with a more tailored response.  Please remember to print your letters on NAU letterhead.  Copies of all letters sent out need to be included in the hiring packet.  Hiring committees are encouraged to send communication as decisions are made.  All letters should be signed by the hiring supervisor and mailed as soon as possible following the completion of your process.  There are three types of non-selection letters that can be sent to applicants.

Does Not Meet Minimum Qualifications Letter

Once the committee has matrixed candidates on the MQs, this letter should go to those who did not meet the MQs.

Non-Interviewed Letter

Once the committee has determined which candidates they want to interview, this letter should go to the candidates who will not be interviewed.

Non-Selection Letter

Once the committee has made an offer and it has been accepted, this letter should go to the candidates who interviewed but were not hired.
