Many departments employ high school students in temporary positions during the summer. This is a reminder that when hiring minors, NAU policy requires Human Resources' approval.

Human Resources will review your needs and make sure your job assignments are appropriate, given child labor laws. The Fair Labor Standards Acts outlines tasks that are illegal for minors. You may review a summary of federal requirements below:

The FLSA child labor provisions are designed to protect minors by restricting the types of jobs and the number of hours they may work.
