Workforce Planning for FY2009 was implemented on January 12, 2009. The planning cycle commenced a year earlier on January 4, 2008. Due to budget uncertainties throughout the planning process, the actual implementation of the adjustments was delayed to the middle of the fiscal year rather than in July 2008, as originally scheduled.
The intent of Workforce Planning is to recognize and address job reclassifications and salary inequities. In addition, certain job families are evaluated carefully for market salary adjustments. Other reasons, such as performance, work volume, and additional experience or education, are not within the scope of Workforce Planning, and these recommendations are therefore not considered.
For FY 2009, extensive analysis of pay adjustment recommendations was done to fully assess the budgetary implications. Equity and market adjustment requests were prioritized to assure the most effective use of limited funding, consistent with NAU’s Compensation Philosophy. The president asked deans, directors, and department heads to focus only on the most critical situations, such as job reclassification, when they reviewed and approved recommendations. |
