Here are the top five things you need to know about performance appraisals for classified staff and service professionals:
- Only one form: the same form is now used for both classified staff and service professionals – and for both the self appraisal and the supervisor’s final assessment.
- Fiscal year appraisal period: The new appraisal period for both classified staff and service professionals is from July 1 – June 30.
- Transition timeline: For continuing employees, this current appraisal period will cover from the date of the last appraisal (fall 06 or spring 07) through June 30, 2008.
- In progress: Portions of the appraisal should already have been completed and discussed (job functions, goals, behaviors for success).
- Self appraisals: After June 30, self appraisals should be collected by supervisors to use in writing the final assessment. Self appraisals are not turned in to HR.
Between July and October, all appraisal information should be gathered by the supervisor and synthesized into a final assessment due to Human Resources no later than October 31st. In the meantime, a new appraisal form should be set up for the coming appraisal year.
Confused by any of this? Training sessions are available on the new appraisal process, setting goals, and writing the final assessment. Register at http://hr.nau.edu/m/content/view/491/418/.
