NAU is currently reviewing modifications to the smoking policy to update it for compliance with the Arizona Revised Statutes 36-601-.01, The Smoke-free Arizona Act. Effective May 1, 2007, the university community will follow this policy and/or the provisions of the law, whichever is more restrictive. This policy is being updated and is expected to change on July 1, 2016. See Policies Under Review.
The purpose of the smoking policy is to ensure compliance with all city and state ordinances related to smoking.
Smoking is defined as the carrying or use of lighted pipes, cigars, cigarettes, snuff, or tobacco in any form.
Smoking is prohibited in all university buildings.
Smoking is prohibited inside all university-owned vehicles.
Complaints or concerns regarding violations of this policy or disputes regarding its implementation should be referred to the area supervisor for resolution.
Violators of this policy may be subject to disciplinary action.
