1.04 New Employee Orientation

The purpose of this policy is to state new employee orientation expectations and supervisory responsibility for allowing employee participation.

Human Resources Department New Employee Benefits Orientation

All new benefit-eligible employees shall attend an orientation session conducted by the Human Resources Department. Contact the Human Resources Department for the date and time of the next regularly scheduled new employee orientation. The dates and times of orientation are also listed on NAU web pages at http://www.nau.edu/hr.

Supervisor's Orientation

The supervisor is responsible for the orientation and training of all new employees to the job. Orientation for new employees is covered in the Supervisor’s Handbook and on NAU web pages at www.nau.edu/hr.

General Procedures

The hiring supervisor must ensure each new employee performs the appropriate initial employment procedures. Failure to ensure compliance with the following procedures will result in a delay of the processing of the employee's first paycheck. The supervisor must: Direct the employee to provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States, in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, and report to the Payroll Department to complete employment eligibility forms. This must be done the first day of employment. The employee's social security card for name and number verification for tax purposes must also be presented to the Payroll Department.
