Introduction

This manual summarizes policies and administrative procedures for the employees of Northern Arizona University. Each policy specifies the employee group(s) to which the policy applies. Throughout the manual, any reference to the Northern Arizona University incorporates the Arizona Board of Regents, which is the constitutional body responsible for directing all Northern Arizona University affairs.

While some policies contained herein also apply to faculty, the Conditions of Faculty Handbook also contains policies (some personnel related) that apply to the faculty employees covered in that Handbook. The Faculty Handbook and other University policies can be accessed  on the university policy website

In the event of an inconsistency or conflict, applicable law and the Arizona Board of Regents’ policies supersede university policies and university policies supersede college, department or lower unit bylaws, policies, or guidelines.

In order to ensure that policy interpretations are consistent, the Associate Vice President for Human Resources (through his or her designees) is solely responsible for interpreting personnel policy application and intent. All references to "the Associate Vice President for Human Resources" shall include that person's designee(s).

Nothing in this manual is intended to create a contract, either expressed or implied, between Northern Arizona University and its employees for either employment or any benefit. All policies herein are subject to the continuing approval of the university and the Arizona Board of Regents.

The university may alter, eliminate, correct or add to any of the provisions of the manual at any time and for any reason, and such alterations, eliminations, or additions shall apply to all pertinent situations from the time of the policy approval date.
